HMB CRACKS DOWN ON ABSENTEEISM, ENFORCES STRICT COMPLIANCE WITH DUTY ROSTERS IN HOSPITALS.

Kano State Hospitals Management Board have declared zero tolerance for absenteeism, negligence, and non compliance with approved call and shift duty rosters among health workers across the state’s secondary healthcare facilities.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Board Samira Sulaiman stated that, The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, made this known during a series of unscheduled inspection visits to major hospitals across the state aimed at assessing staff commitment, service delivery, and overall facility performance.

Dr. Nagoda expressed deep concern over the growing trend of some healthcare personnel who genuinely abandon their duty posts while officially scheduled to be on call or shift duty, describing the practice as unprofessional, unethical, and a direct threat to the lives of patients.
“It is highly unprofessional for healthcare workers entrusted with the responsibility of saving lives to bolt from duty. Such actions place patients at serious risk and undermine the confidence of the public in our healthcare system,” he stated.
The Executive Secretary warned that the Board would henceforth take decisive disciplinary measures against any staff found violating duty roster regulations, stressing that erring personnel would forfeit the relevant call or shift allowances in addition to facing other administrative sanctions in accordance to the civil service rules.
While addressing the issue of manpower development, the Executive Secretary disclosed that the Kano State Government is actively pursuing the completion of the recruitment of additional healthcare professionals to bridge existing workforce gaps across hospitals in the state. He, however, called for the prudent and efficient utilization of the available human resources pending the completion of the recruitment process.
Dr. Nagoda further revealed that the Hospitals Management Board has significantly strengthened its monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to complement the administration’s commitment to improving healthcare service delivery and ensuring that residents receive quality, accessible, and timely medical care.
In a demonstration of the Board’s resolve to enforce discipline and accountability, query letters were issued on the spot to some staff members found wanting during the inspections.
As part of efforts to strengthen accountability and operational efficiency, Dr. Nagoda directed all hospital management teams to ensure the immediate display of updated daily duty rosters in all units and departments. He also emphasized the need for sustained cleanliness and proper environmental sanitation within healthcare facilities to create a safe and conducive atmosphere for patient care.
The inspection team, led by the Executive Secretary and accompanied by Directors of the Board, visited several key healthcare facilities including Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Sheikh Jidda General Hospital, Infectious Diseases Hospital, Waziri Gidado General Hospital, Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, Mallam Jafar amongst other.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to building a responsive, efficient, and patient centered healthcare system where professionalism, dedication, and accountability remain the cornerstone of service delivery.
