KNUPDA Intensifies Crackdown on Planning Violations

The Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) has commended its Taskforce Committee for its dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment during a comprehensive enforcement exercise conducted across key areas of Kano metropolis to ensure compliance with urban planning regulations.
The exercise, led by the Acting Managing Director of KNUPDA, Tpl. Nura Maude, alongside Directors and other supporting staff, commenced in the early hours of the day and continued into the afternoon. It formed part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to promote orderly urban development and enforce planning standards in line with the development agenda of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The enforcement team visited several strategic locations, including Tarauni, Nassarawa, Gwale, Kano Municipal, and Ungogo Local Government Areas. Inspections were also carried out along Yahya Gusau Road and Tal’udu Road to assess ongoing developments and ensure strict adherence to approved building and planning regulations.
Speaking during the exercise, the Acting Managing Director, Tpl. Nura Maude, expressed concern over the persistent disregard of official notices and directives by some property owners and developers. He stressed that any building marked with KNUPDA notices such as “Stop Work,” “Remove,” or other official inscriptions should prompt immediate engagement with the Authority for clarification and guidance.
According to him, ignoring such notices constitutes a violation of planning regulations and may attract further enforcement actions.
Tpl. Nura Maude reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to transforming Kano into a modern, organized, and livable city through effective urban planning and infrastructure development.
He called on residents, developers, and stakeholders to support government initiatives aimed at improving environmental management, infrastructure, and sustainable urban growth across the state.
“The success of our urban development agenda depends largely on public cooperation and compliance with planning regulations. Together, we can build a city that is orderly, safe, aesthetically pleasing, and conducive for economic growth and social development,” he stated.
The Acting Managing Director further noted that the commitment, teamwork, and professionalism demonstrated by members of the KNUPDA Taskforce Committee throughout the exercise reflect the Authority’s determination to uphold excellence and contribute meaningfully to the development and beautification of Kano State.
KNUPDA reiterated its resolve to safeguard urban planning standards and ensure that all physical developments across the state conform to approved regulations for the benefit of present and future generations.
