Al‑Amin: How a First‑Class Botany Graduate Built ALKOM GLOBAL ACCESSORIES and Is Powering Young Lives

Al‑Amin—born Aminu Abdul‑Salam in Kano was the kind of student lecturers remember: curious, disciplined and quietly ambitious, graduating top of his botany department at the Federal University, Dutse with first‑class honours.
Within a few years he traded microscopes for micro‑business spreadsheets, turning a modest 2023 startup into ALKOM Global Accessories, a fast‑growing company that sells electronic and solar power accessories and trains young people to build careers in a green, technology‑driven market.

From a classroom to a storefront
Al‑Amin says his early life and studies shaped how he solves problems. “Botany taught me to observe closely, be patient and look for small changes that make a big difference,” he tells us. He began selling accessories with little capital but a clear focus: stock reliable products and learn from every sale. That practical mindset helped him scale quickly.
Growth built on grit
What began as a small sideline in 2023 had become an official brand by 2024—AlKom Global Accessories—a business he describes as “vision, hard work and resilience made visible.” The company supplies electronic and solar power items, and its growth accelerated as demand for affordable solar solutions rose. “We started with one customer at a time,” Al‑Amin recalls. “Each satisfied customer was our advertisement.”
Creating pathways for youth
ALKOM is more than a shopfront; it’s a platform for opportunity. The company trains and employs local youths, teaching installation, maintenance and sales skills so trainees can earn and become self‑reliant. “Providing jobs is part of our mission,” Al‑Amin says. “When a young person learns a skill here, they can support themselves and their families.” Several former trainees now operate their own small businesses after mentorship from ALCOM.
What keeps him grounded
Faith and family remain central to Al‑Amin’s story; he attributes his progress to the grace of God and the guidance of his parents. “Everything I’ve achieved is by God’s grace and my parents’ direction,” he says. He also urges caution mixed with courage: “Every business has risks. Don’t be afraid to take the first step—start with whatever you have and learn along the way.”
