The Kano State Executive Council has approved projects and programmes worth ₦55.48 billion to accelerate development across critical sectors, including education, healthcare, road infrastructure, water supply, rural development and environmental sanitation.
The approvals were made during the 40th Executive Council Meeting chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the approvals reflect the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens through strategic investments in essential public services.
He disclosed that the education sector received the largest share of the approvals, covering the rehabilitation and construction of schools, provision of classrooms, ICT centres, libraries, staff quarters and educational facilities across the state. The Council also approved major healthcare projects, including the upgrading of primary healthcare centres and the procurement of medical equipment for hospitals.
The Council further approved the construction and rehabilitation of major roads, payment of compensation to property owners affected by ongoing road projects, investments in water supply and drainage infrastructure, rural development initiatives, procurement of broadcasting equipment for the Kano State Broadcasting Corporation, and capacity-building programmes for public information officers.
In addition, the Executive Council approved the transmission of key health-related bills to the Kano State House of Assembly, endorsed Kano State’s participation in the NG-CARES 2.0 Additional Financing Programme, and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening social protection, public service delivery and sustainable economic development across the state.
