Jajaye Market Traders Applaud Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Push for Better Roads to Boost Trade

Traders at Jajaye Market, one of western Kano State’s oldest and busiest commercial hubs, are commending the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for its efforts to support commerce and infrastructure — while calling for more investment to match the market’s growing economic importance.
Located in Rogo Local Government Area, Jajaye Market has long served as a meeting point for Fulani pastoralists, farmers, livestock dealers, and grain merchants from surrounding communities. Its stalls buzz daily with trade in livestock, grains, farm produce, leather goods, and other agricultural commodities.
Speaking to this reporter, prominent livestock trader Malam Yahaya Jajaye said the current administration has shown a level of attention to the market that previous governments lacked. “There’s a remarkable difference,” he said, noting that past administrations largely overlooked Jajaye Market despite its strategic role in the local economy.
Malam Yahaya pointed to the shortage of modern trading stalls as one of the market’s biggest challenges. Only two sheds were built back when the area fell under the former Karaye Local Government, he recalled, and no further expansion happened until the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, stepped in to facilitate the construction of additional stalls.
While grateful for the Speaker’s intervention, he said the new stalls still fall short of what’s needed given the market’s expanding trader population and commercial activity. He appealed to the state government to rehabilitate the road linking Tsamiya Junction to Jajaye Market, arguing that better access would ease transportation and unlock further economic growth.
Leather merchant Malam Shafi’u echoed the call for greater government attention, citing the market’s substantial contribution to the local economy. He praised Speaker Falgore for facilitating the construction of a bridge and for flagging off the Jajaye Road Project from Fulatan, calling both landmark achievements that have improved life for residents and traders alike.
Malam Shafi’u also urged the state government to complete the remaining stretch of the access road connecting Tsamiya, Daneji, Ganjarawa, Kwarin Lanzi, Jama’ar Madaki, Tashar Haske, and Ba’awa in Kiru Local Government Area — a project he believes would further boost trade and accelerate development across the benefiting communities.
