The Kano State Commissioner for the Ministry of Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME), Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji Sumaila, has inspected the ongoing multi-billion-naira modernization and rehabilitation of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to restoring reliable and sustainable water supply across the Kano metropolis.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations officer of the Ministry Sagiru Ado Abubakar stated that, The inspection forms part of the ministry’s routine monitoring of key infrastructure projects under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aimed at revitalizing critical public facilities and improving the quality of life for residents.
The Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant modernization project is designed to restore the functionality of the water works, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure uninterrupted access to potable water for millions of people across the metropolis.
The project addresses years of infrastructural deterioration, obsolete equipment, and flood damage to the raw water intake facilities. Major components include the rehabilitation of the Raw Water Pump Station, procurement and installation of ten new raw water pumps, installation of four 1,500KVA Caterpillar generating sets, rehabilitation of key electrical and mechanical systems, and repairs to critical water transmission pipelines.
Speaking during the inspection, Comrade Ma’aji Sumaila expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and urged the contractors handling the various components of the project to maintain quality standards while accelerating completion in line with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to delivering essential infrastructure to the people of Kano State.
He stated that upon completion, the project would significantly increase water production capacity, improve the reliability of water supply, and provide a lasting solution to water shortages affecting many communities within the metropolis.
Earlier, the Commissioner undertook an extensive monitoring exercise of 31 capital projects across Warawa and Dawakin Kudu Local Government Areas. The projects comprise nine in Warawa and twenty-two in Dawakin Kudu, with a combined contract value of ₦18.2 billion.
Among the projects inspected were the construction of a Juma’at Mosque, perimeter fencing and convenience facilities at Rijiyar Gwangwan in Dawakin Kudu, the renovation of Dawakin Kudu General Hospital, installation of solar-powered streetlights along a five-kilometre road network, redevelopment of the Dawakin Kudu District Head’s Palace, construction of a Community Primary School at Gishiri Wuya in Warawa, Neighborhood Security Watch Divisional Offices, the Warawa five-kilometre road project, Gida-Gida classroom blocks, and several other infrastructure and social development projects.
The monitoring exercise underscores the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, value for money, and strict compliance with approved specifications in the execution of government-funded projects across Kano State.
