The Kano State Government has directed the management of Azman University, Kano, to present all relevant building approvals, land documents, and operational permits to the State Committee on Illegal Structures or risk closure over alleged violations of town planning regulations.
The directive was issued by the State Committee on Illegal Structures, chaired by the Director General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, as part of the government’s ongoing enforcement campaign against illegal developments and unauthorized structures across the state.
According to the committee, the university’s management is expected to appear before it with all statutory approvals and documentation relating to structures within the institution. The committee warned that failure to comply with the directive could result in the closure of the institution and other enforcement measures in accordance with the law.
In a related development, the committee ordered the sealing of the Azman Filling Station, located within the university environment, over alleged non-compliance with urban planning and development regulations.
The actions are part of the Kano State Government’s intensified efforts to address illegal structures, unauthorized commercial developments, and violations of building regulations across the Kano metropolis.
The committee has recently sealed several commercial plazas, construction sites, filling stations, housing estates, and other properties found to be operating without the required approvals or in breach of town planning laws. Among the affected properties are Wholesale Electronics Household along Gwarzo Road opposite Bayero University Kano, an illegal housing estate at NNDC Quarters, and several structures at Kantin Kwari Market where demolition notices were reportedly issued.
Speaking during one of the enforcement operations, the Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, reiterated that all property owners, developers, commercial operators, and construction firms must comply with the state’s planning regulations and obtain all necessary approvals before embarking on any development.
He stressed that any structure found to be in violation of government regulations would face appropriate sanctions, including sealing, demolition, or closure.
Dr. Sani further called on members of the public to support the committee by reporting illegal structures, blocked drainage channels, and other developments that contravene town planning regulations.
He noted that public cooperation is essential to curbing illegal construction activities, protecting the environment, and promoting orderly urban development.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed that the ongoing enforcement exercise is aimed at restoring order, enhancing environmental safety, and advancing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Kano First development agenda through strict enforcement of building and land use regulations across the state.
