Kano Inaugurates Taskforce Against Illegal Structures

Kano State Government has inaugurated an 11-member special taskforce committee to address the increasing cases of illegal structures and violations of approved building plans across the state.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Farouk Ibrahim, said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed concern over the growing number of buildings constructed without approval, particularly within Kano metropolis.

The SSG stated that the present administration has invested significantly in urban renewal projects, including road construction, drainage systems, and environmental beautification aimed at transforming the state capital.

He noted that residents and visitors can already witness the ongoing transformation under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring order and ensuring proper urban planning across the state.

Umar Farouk Ibrahim charged members of the committee to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, sincerity, and integrity, emphasizing that they were carefully selected based on competence and credibility.

He further stated that the government remains committed to protecting Kano State’s master plan and promoting sustainable urban development for future generations.

The committee is chaired by the Director-General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, with Mustapha Ibrahim Fagge serving as Secretary and Yusuf Yakubu Ismail as Co-Secretary.

Other members of the committee include Alhaji Dayyabu Zubairu Gano, Barrister Ahmad Sunusi, Umar Musa Umar, Abubakar Usman (AU), Dr. Zainab Ibrahim Jibril, Sunusi Abdullahi Kofar Naisa, Muzammil Ibrahim Yakasai, and Bello Zakari.

The committee’s terms of reference include identifying illegal structures within Kano metropolis, especially in Nassarawa, Fagge, Tarauni, and Kumbotso Local Government Areas, reviewing building approvals issued within the last two years, and stopping developments that violate approved building plans.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, appreciated the state government for the confidence reposed in the members and assured that the taskforce would discharge its duties diligently and professionally.
