Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has flagged off an empowerment programme initiated by the Director-General of the Katsina State Bureau of Statistics, Professor Saifullahi Sani Ibrahim Matazu, aimed at supporting education and improving livelihoods at the grassroots.
The programme, tagged “Katsina Rises Again 2.0,” includes the distribution of over 3,000 educational materials and textbooks to students across Matazu Local Government Area, as well as financial support for women to strengthen small businesses.
The initiative builds on the first edition of the programme, where students who attained a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 and above received N100,000 each as academic support.
Under the latest intervention, 100 women are also expected to receive start-up capital to establish and expand small-scale businesses.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony held at the Matazu Local Government Secretariat, Governor Radda said the programme aligns with his administration’s “Building Your Future” agenda, which focuses on human capital development, education support and economic empowerment.
The Governor commended Professor Matazu for initiating the programme, describing it as a valuable contribution towards improving the living standards of beneficiaries and complementing government efforts in addressing social and economic challenges.
Earlier, Professor Saifullahi Matazu said the empowerment initiative was part of his commitment to giving back to the community and supporting vulnerable members of society.
He commended Governor Radda for his leadership qualities and commitment towards the development of Katsina State, assuring that he would continue to assist the needy and other vulnerable groups.
Professor Matazu urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the support provided to them, while appealing to teachers and school management of beneficiary institutions to ensure the educational materials are properly utilised for the benefit of students.
