The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Katsina State Chapter, has appealed to the Katsina ACReSAL Project for greater support to address poor hatching rates, poultry diseases, waste management and other challenges affecting poultry production in the state.
The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the association, led by its State Chairman, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Yaya, to the Katsina ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Alhaji Nafiu Mohammed Musa, at the project’s office.

Speaking during the visit, Abdullahi said the association was established to unite poultry farmers across Katsina State and provide support in overcoming constraints limiting productivity and growth in the sector.
He commended the interventions being implemented by Katsina ACReSAL, particularly the distribution of poultry birds and feed to beneficiaries, describing them as significant steps towards improving poultry production.
The PAN chairman, however, called for additional support in critical areas, including water supply, poultry waste management and disposal, disease control, capacity building and technical training to enhance productivity and sustainability.
He also expressed the association’s readiness to partner with ACReSAL in identifying genuine poultry farmers who would benefit from the project’s interventions.
Also speaking, the association’s Secretary-General, Arc. Buhari Sodangi, stressed the importance of equipping farmers with the necessary knowledge and technical skills before venturing into poultry production. He said proper management practices remain essential for improving productivity, profitability and the long-term sustainability of poultry enterprises.
Responding, the Katsina ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Alhaji Nafiu Mohammed Musa, reaffirmed the project’s commitment to collaborating with the Poultry Association to strengthen poultry production across the state.
He said ACReSAL provides beneficiaries with technical guidance through experts during training programmes and assured the association that its requests would receive due consideration.
Mohammed Musa underscored the importance of proper poultry waste management, noting that poultry waste, when properly processed, can be converted into valuable resources that generate additional income for farmers while protecting the environment.
He added that the effective use of chicken manure enhances soil fertility, boosts crop yields, reduces environmental pollution and promotes sustainable agricultural practices.
The Project Coordinator reiterated that collaboration with relevant stakeholders remains key to achieving the objectives of the Katsina ACReSAL Project and advancing climate-smart agriculture in the state.
