Politics is not merely a game of power; it is a dangerous battlefield of intelligence, ego, ambition, betrayal, calculations, hidden interests, and strategic surprises capable of turning kings into spectators and spectators into kings overnight. It is a theatre where perception often collides with reality and where a single political move can dismantle long-held assumptions and force even the loudest critics into uncomfortable silence. Today, such a scenario appears to be unfolding within the political atmosphere of our ancient city, where an unfolding drama has not only altered conversations but may have quietly begun reshaping the balance of power itself.
Ever since Governor Abba made the painful but daring decision to free himself from the heavy shadow of an overbearing political structure and distance himself from a relationship many considered politically suffocating, many observers anticipated chaos. That separation did not merely create political headlines; it created emotional reactions, bruised egos, and visible frustration. The presumed political godfather did not hide his disappointment. Through repeated remarks and emotionally charged statements, traces of anger, pain, and feelings of betrayal became increasingly visible. The departure appeared to leave deep political wounds, and for many political observers, that moment marked the beginning of a countdown.

In many states, old friendships transformed into fresh rivalries as individuals fought fiercely for opportunities. The expectation of conflict became natural because politics often awakens both loyalty and desperation.

Thousands of aspirants from both the old APC structure and the new political family surrounding Governor Abba flooded the political landscape seeking various positions. Political analysts watched carefully. Critics waited impatiently. Opponents positioned themselves for what they believed would become a spectacular collapse.
But what followed shocked nearly everyone.
Instead of panic, confusion, or desperate improvisation, Governor Abba embraced an entirely different approach. Quietly and strategically, he opened channels of engagement. The anticipated political earthquake never arrived. The expected mass defections failed to materialize. The long-awaited collapse remained absent.
Instead, something else emerged. Respect. Admiration. And perhaps, fear.
Across political circles, participants reportedly praised the governor’s simplicity, composure, depth of reasoning, and remarkable handling of a highly sensitive process. What was expected to destroy his political credibility unexpectedly strengthened it. What critics anticipated would weaken him instead expanded his influence. Kano successfully moved forward while other states struggled with unresolved disputes and chaotic internal battles resulting from failures in leadership and reconciliation.
Ironically, while some waited comfortably for political ruins and anticipated endless crisis, reality delivered a different script. The smooth handling of a process many considered explosive sent shockwaves across political camps and perhaps unsettled those who had confidently predicted failure.
Politics has always punished underestimation.
And perhaps the greatest lesson emerging from this episode is that sometimes the most dangerous political force is not the loudest voice in the room, but the quiet strategist everyone mistakenly ignored.
