KSPHCMB, MSF Deepen Nutrition Partnership

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in addressing malnutrition and improving primary healthcare services across Kano State.
The Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, alongside the Board’s Nutrition Team, paid a supervisory visit to Unguwa Uku Primary Health Centre to assess ongoing interventions being implemented by MSF in support of the state’s response to the malnutrition crisis.

The Director General was accompanied by the Head of Mission of MSF, Mohamed Dalal, and the MSF WACA Kano State Project Coordinator, Meria Nadje. During the visit, the delegation toured various departments of the facility where MSF-supported healthcare and nutrition activities were showcased, including Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) services and staff capacity-building initiatives.
Speaking during the visit, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim commended MSF for its impactful contributions toward improving child health and nutrition outcomes in Kano State. He emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships and coordinated action among development partners to ensure the long-term sustainability of nutrition interventions across the state.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Board Sa’adatu Suleiman further disclosed that, The MSF Head of Mission also sought the support of the KSPHCMB Director General in promoting stronger multisectoral collaboration involving religious leaders, the Ministry of Agriculture and other key stakeholders to comprehensively address malnutrition. He further stressed the need to strengthen human resources for health by increasing the number of healthcare workers and enhancing their capacity to tackle malnutrition across the 44 Local Government Areas, particularly within the 96 OTP centres.
Discussions during the visit focused on the development of a harmonized roadmap among nutrition partners, including MSF, UNICEF, Nutrition International and other stakeholders. The stakeholders also advocated continuous training and support for healthcare workers managing OTP services across the state.
The visit forms part of KSPHCMB’s ongoing commitment to supportive supervision, quality improvement and strengthened partnerships aimed at expanding access to effective and sustainable primary healthcare and nutrition services for communities across Kano State.
