Romi-Dawakin Tofa Road: An Appeal for Construction

An approximately 8 kilometre Romi Road starting from Kano-Katsina Road at Gangaren Dutse close to Maiburgami Petrol Filling Station passing through the greater part of Romi area joining Dawaki– Dungurawa Road at Government Science College Dawakin Tofa is in a deplorable condition. The feeder road was constructed by the Dawakin Tofa Local Government in 1995 following series of agitations by the affected communities such as Romi, Bambarawa, Chedi Babbar Ruga, Kwa, Bagadawa Kabi, Sarkakkiya, Chedi Ingawa, Buruntumau, Tattarawa and Dawakin Tofa town. The road connected the people of the area with the headquarters of Local Government area which they frequently visited for different purposes.
However, since the collapse of the Gadare bridge about thirty years ago and the dilapidated condition of the roads, it has negatively affected the growth of the economy, education, health, security and other indices of the development of the affected communities.
Our investigation reveals that this road was first selected by the World Bank and Agence- Franchise Development for reconstruction in conjunction with the Kano State in 2017. But the work was not actualized. Following series of surveys and estimation by the relevant agencies, the road was also selected for reconstruction through the Rural Access Agricultural Marketing Project (RAMP) by the World Bank and Agence- Franchise Development in 2024. Also delegation from the Kano State Ministry of Works had visited the road and pledged the reconstruction of the road. However, the work has not been carried to date.
As this year’s rainy season is approaching, the people of the area is appealing to government and other relevant stakeholders to come their aid by reconstructing the road. This will go a long way in providing easy access to markets, farmland, schools, health facilities and promote security.
