NDLEA Seeks Strategic Partnership with Bagwai LGA to Combat Drug Abuse

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bichi Zonal Command, has called for strengthened collaboration with Bagwai Local Government Area (LGA) as part of efforts to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking at the grassroots level.
This call was made during an advocacy visit by the NDLEA delegation to Bagwai LGA, aimed at fostering strategic partnership and mobilizing local support to address the growing challenges of drug-related crimes within the community.

Leading the delegation, the Area Commander of NDLEA Bichi Zone, ACN Umar Muhammad, underscored the urgent need for collective action to tackle the rising incidence of illicit drug use, particularly among young people. He noted that drug abuse poses a serious threat to public health, security, and socio-economic development.
“Effective control of drug abuse requires a unified approach involving government institutions, traditional authorities, and community stakeholders,” he stated.
ACN Umar Muhammad further emphasized the importance of community-driven interventions, highlighting that the success of NDLEA’s operations depends significantly on cooperation at the local level. He called on the Bagwai LGA leadership to support sensitization initiatives, intelligence sharing, and enforcement strategies aimed at curbing the spread of illicit substances.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of Bagwai Local Government Area, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi Gadanya, commended the NDLEA for its proactive engagement and dedication to protecting communities from the dangers of drug abuse.
He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to partnering with the agency, pledging full support for awareness campaigns and collaborative measures to strengthen local frameworks in the fight against drug-related offences.
In a statement signed by the Council Information officer Shehu Bello Shanono disclosed that, The visit marks a significant step towards enhancing synergy between NDLEA and local authorities in promoting safer, healthier communities.
