KHETFUND CONDUCTS POST-FUNDING VERIFICATION AT NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY CLINIC
The Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has carried out a post-funding verification exercise at the Northwest University Clinic to assess how medical equipment provided under its intervention programme is being utilised and its impact on service delivery.
The intervention, aimed at strengthening diagnostic services at the university’s clinic, included a CR 12-NX X-ray machine, a workstation, and a monitor.
KHETFUND Verifies Dawakin Kudu Hospital
Leading the exercise, the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahradeen, expressed concern that the X-ray machine remained unused several months after it was supplied to the facility.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations officer of the Agency Amina Lawan Isa disclosed that, Dr. Fatima noted that the objective of KHETFUND interventions is to ensure that approved medical equipment and facilities are put to effective use for the benefit of patients and the wider community.
She stated that KHETFUND would formally write to the clinic’s management, requesting a clear explanation and immediate steps to bring the equipment into operation.
The Executive Secretary further stressed that where an intervention remains unutilised within the required period, without satisfactory justification or concrete corrective steps, KHETFUND may be compelled to take appropriate measures.
Responding on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Bilal Sharif thanked KHETFUND for the intervention and acknowledged the concerns raised by the Executive Secretary.
He explained that the institution had a genuine need for the equipment but had faced challenges with the adequacy of electricity supply required to operate it.
Dr. Bilal apologised to KHETFUND for the delay in putting the equipment to use and assured the Executive Secretary that immediate steps would be taken to resolve the power-related challenge and ensure the equipment becomes fully operational.
