The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with the Republic of Sudan by supporting strategic partnerships in healthcare, education, commerce, agriculture and cultural exchange.
The government also expressed its readiness to consider requests for land to establish a Sudanese hospital and community office in Kano, as well as the temporary use of Nasarawa Hospital as the teaching hospital for El-Razi University.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer Deputy Governor’s office Malam Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu stated that, The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, gave the assurance on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf while receiving the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Nigeria, Sheikh Mohammed Abdelaal Haroon, during a courtesy visit to the Government House, Kano, on Friday. He stated that the request for the temporary use of Nasarawa Hospital would be forwarded to Governor Yusuf for consideration and subjected to professional assessment before any decision is taken. He added that the request for land to establish a Sudanese hospital and community office would also receive due attention.

The Deputy Governor conveyed Governor Yusuf’s heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Sudan over the ongoing security and humanitarian crisis in the country, describing the situation as deeply painful. He prayed for lasting peace, stability and national unity, noting that Kano and Sudan share centuries-old historical ties rooted in religion, education, culture and commerce. He also commended Ambassador Haroon for engaging with Sudanese nationals resident in Kano, describing the visit as a reflection of the embassy’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
Alhaji Murtala Garo further appreciated the Sudanese Government for awarding fifteen scholarships to Kano indigenes and expressed optimism that more educational opportunities would become available once peace is restored in Sudan. He reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s determination to deepen cooperation with Sudan in key sectors for the mutual benefit of both sides and prayed for an end to the conflict to enable the Sudanese people to rebuild their nation in peace, dignity and prosperity.
In his remarks, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Nigeria, Sheikh Mohammed Abdelaal Haroon, described the relationship between Nigeria and Sudan as historic and enduring, with Kano occupying a central position in the bilateral partnership. He lamented the devastating humanitarian impact of the conflict in Sudan, which has resulted in loss of lives, displacement of families and destruction of property. The Ambassador appealed to the Kano State Government to approve the temporary use of Nasarawa Hospital as the teaching hospital for El-Razi University and allocate land for the construction of a Sudanese hospital, expressing confidence that the initiatives would further strengthen cooperation between Kano State and Sudan, particularly in healthcare and education.
