Gov. Yusuf Honoured by Kano Online Media Chapel
GOV. YUSUF PLEDGES CONTINUED SUPPORT FOR JOURNALISTS AFTER RECEIVING EXCELLENCE AWARD
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting journalists and strengthening the media profession following his recognition with an Award of Excellence by the Kano Online Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The award was presented on Wednesday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Kano, in recognition of the Governor’s unwavering support for media development and his administration’s commitment to promoting professional journalism in the state.
Receiving the award, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the Kano Online Media Chapel for the honour, describing it as an encouragement to sustain efforts aimed at advancing media development. He commended members of the Chapel for their professionalism and dedication to promoting truth, public enlightenment, and responsible journalism.
The Governor assured journalists of his administration’s continued support through capacity-building programmes and policies that strengthen the journalism profession. He also urged media practitioners to uphold the ethics of the profession by ensuring accuracy, fairness, and objectivity in their reporting, stressing that credible journalism is essential for good governance, peace, and sustainable development.
Presenting the award, the Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, said the recognition was in appreciation of Governor Yusuf’s outstanding contributions to media development, particularly his support in facilitating the training of more than 50 online journalists on ethical reporting, digital journalism, fact-checking, and emerging media technologies.
He noted that the Governor’s investment in capacity building has enhanced the skills of online journalists, enabling them to meet the evolving demands of digital journalism while promoting professionalism and ethical reporting.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, commended the Kano Online Media Chapel for its commitment to responsible journalism and professional excellence. He described the media as a vital partner in democratic governance and reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for journalists through sustained capacity-building initiatives.
