The Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (
KSPHCMB), in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and eHealth Africa, has successfully concluded a specialized four-day training program for the newly established Borno State Floating Assembly Technicians. The intensive session focused on Cold Chain Equipment (CCE) Maintenance and operationalizing the Floating Assembly System to ensure the integrity of vaccines in Borno State.
Held from June 22–25, 2026, at the Kano Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and the KSPHCMB Floating Assembly Facility, the training brought together Borno State health officials, members of the Borno Floating Assembly Unit, CHAI representatives, and eHealth Africa experts. The initiative aims to bolster technical capacity for sustainable vaccine logistics and equipment management.

“Investing in technical capacity is a critical investment in safeguarding vaccine potency and strengthening our immunization systems,” stated Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, Director General of KSPHCMB, during the opening ceremony. “Kano’s cold chain maintenance model provides a practical framework for strengthening vaccine logistics, and we are committed to collaborating with partners to build resilient primary healthcare systems nationwide.”
The curriculum equipped participants with hands-on skills in preventive and corrective maintenance, focusing specifically on manufacturer-approved procedures for Dulas Solar Direct Drive (SDD) and B Medical (SDD) refrigerators. The training adhered strictly to National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) standards and WHO Performance, Quality, and Safety (PQS) guidelines. In addition to diagnostics, participants received in-depth instruction on equipment commissioning, spare parts management, safety protocols, service documentation, and replicating Kano’s maintenance model.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Board Sa’adatu Suleiman stressed that, This strategic partnership underscores the shared mission of KSPHCMB, CHAI, and eHealth Africa to expand technical expertise across Nigeria. By enhancing the competence of maintenance personnel, the program aims to reduce equipment downtime, minimize vaccine wastage, and ensure the sustained availability of potent vaccines for routine immunization services in Borno State.
