Prof. Jakada Hands Over Leadership of AKCILS to Acting Provost as Tenure Concludes

Prof. Balarabe Abubakar Jakada (Majidadin Kauran Katsina), the longest-serving Provost in the history of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), has formally handed over the affairs of the institution to the Deputy Provost (Academics), Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, following the conclusion of his second and final tenure in office.

The handover ceremony was held at the Majidadin Kauran Katsina Conference Hall of the College and was attended by Principal Officers and members of the College Management Committee, in a gathering that marked a significant chapter in the institution’s history.

The ceremony began with a formal address by the College Registrar, Hajiya Raliya Aliyu Abubakar, who spoke in an emotionally charged voice, describing the occasion as both difficult and deeply memorable. She paid tribute to the outgoing Provost, characterising him as a visionary leader whose far-reaching contributions would endure in the chronicles of the College.

Leaders of the College’s various trade unions and other members of staff also delivered goodwill messages, collectively applauding the numerous achievements recorded under Prof. Jakada’s administration throughout his eight-year tenure.

In his valedictory address, Prof. Jakada expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management, staff, and students of the College for the unwavering cooperation and support extended to him throughout his administration. He affirmed that his handover notes contain a comprehensive account of his tenure, together with key recommendations aimed at sustaining the growth and development of the institution.

Prof. Jakada highlighted that his administration pursued a series of strategic policies and programmes designed to enhance institutional productivity and overall performance. Among the accomplishments he cited was the successful securing of the College’s audited accounts spanning from 2017 to 2024.

“I am happy to inform you that we have successfully secured the audited accounts of the College from 2017 to 2024,” Prof. Jakada stated, adding that auditors are currently working on the accounts for 2025 and subsequent years.

The outgoing Provost urged Dr. Mu’az to uphold and build upon the existing culture of academic excellence, discipline, and institutional development. He further attributed the achievements of his administration to the collective efforts and teamwork of the entire College community.

In his acceptance remarks, the Acting Provost, Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, expressed appreciation to Prof. Jakada for his exemplary leadership, mentorship, and immense contributions to the development of the College. He assured the management and staff of his full commitment to sustaining the laudable achievements of the outgoing administration and ensuring the continued smooth and effective running of the institution.

The handover ceremony marks another important milestone in the institutional history of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, underscoring the College’s commitment to orderly governance, academic continuity, and institutional progress.
