Gombe Airport Commences 2026 Hajj Operations with First Pilgrims’ Airlift to Saudi Arab

The Brigadier Zakari Maimalari International Airport (BZMIA), Gombe, has successfully commenced the 2026 Hajj operations with the airlift of the first batch of pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The inaugural flight, operated by Max Air using a Boeing 777 aircraft with registration number 5N-BBN, departed the airport at exactly 12:02 a.m. GMT on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

A total of 411 pilgrims were airlifted alongside crew members on board the flight, marking the official beginning of this year’s Hajj transportation exercise from Gombe State.
The Airport Manager, Mr. Suleiman Marafa, personally supervised the operation and actively participated in coordinating activities to ensure a smooth and hitch-free departure.
Management of the airport commended all staff members, including adhoc personnel, for their dedication, professionalism, and teamwork, which contributed immensely to the successful conduct of the first Hajj flight operation.
The airport management reaffirmed its
commitment to ensuring safe, efficient, and seamless operations throughout the Hajj exercise.
