The Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC) of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical journalism, strengthening members’ welfare and enhancing the professional development of online journalists in Kano State.
The resolutions were reached during the Chapel’s Congress held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the NUJ Press Centre, Kano, under the chairmanship of the Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo.
The Congress urged members to remain united, uphold the Nigeria Union of Journalists Code of Ethics and ensure professionalism, fairness, accuracy and balance in the coverage of political activities and future elections. It stressed that responsible journalism remains essential to promoting peace, democratic values and public confidence in the media.
Congress also approved measures aimed at strengthening the financial sustainability of the Chapel, including the introduction of monthly members’ contributions, the establishment of a seven-member Revenue Drive Committee and the exploration of legitimate partnerships and other revenue-generating opportunities to support the Chapel’s programmes and members’ welfare.
Among other resolutions, Congress approved the organisation of the Chapel’s second anniversary celebration, endorsed the introduction of an advertisement Rate Card system to enhance professionalism in advertising engagements and resolved to pursue the issuance of official identification cards for members through the appropriate channels of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
The Congress further commended the leadership of the Chapel for maintaining transparency through regular Secretariat and financial reports, while encouraging greater participation by members in the activities and programmes of the organisation.
Congress also congratulated the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on the recognition received from the Chapel in appreciation of their support for journalism and media development.
The Kano Online Media Chapel reaffirmed its resolve to continue promoting unity among members, safeguarding the integrity of online journalism and advancing initiatives that will improve the welfare, capacity and professional excellence of journalists across Kano State.
