Kano Online Media Chapel Chairman Urges Journalists to Uphold Professional Ethics

The Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel (KOMC), Comrade Abubakar Dan Gambo, has called on journalists to uphold the ethics of the journalism profession by maintaining editorial independence, ensuring accuracy in reporting, and resisting undue influence from politicians and other vested interests.
Dan Gambo made the call during the Second Congress Meeting of the Kano Online Media Chapel held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Kano.
He stressed that the credibility of the media depends on journalists’ commitment to truth, fairness, accuracy, and balance, noting that public trust can only be sustained through responsible and ethical journalism.
The KOMC Chairman cautioned media practitioners against allowing politicians or other interest groups to influence editorial decisions, urging journalists to remain objective and place the public interest above personal or political considerations.
He also advised online journalists to thoroughly verify information before publication, particularly in an era where misinformation and unverified reports spread rapidly across digital and social media platforms.
According to Dan Gambo, responsible journalism requires strict adherence to professional ethics, fact-checking, and balanced reporting, adding that journalists have a vital role in promoting informed public discourse and strengthening democratic governance.
He further urged members of the Kano Online Media Chapel to foster unity among themselves and use their online platforms to promote peace, responsible communication, and national development.
Dan Gambo reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano Online Media Chapel to organizing regular training programmes and capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing the professional competence of its members and advancing ethical online journalism in Kano State.
