Zamfara: Crowd Delays Marafa’s Campaign Committee Inauguration

A large crowd of supporters in Zamfara State on Monday delayed the arrival of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate, Senator Kabiru Marafa, at the venue of the inauguration of his campaign committee until after 8pm.
Marafa had arrived in the state earlier in the day ahead of the event, but said the large number of supporters who came out to receive him disrupted his scheduled activities.
Speaking at the gathering, the former senator presented luxury vehicles to some party leaders as part of his campaign activities.
He said each of the vehicles donated was equivalent to 100 vehicles that, according to him, members of the ruling party could afford to provide.
Marafa criticised members of the ruling party, saying they were incapable of making similar donations.
He also alleged that support and assistance to the poor and people of Zamfara had declined since his departure from the party.
He said his return would mark a renewed commitment to supporting the people, adding that members of the ruling party would eventually emulate his initiatives.
The NDC candidate further announced plans to distribute vehicles on five occasions to five categories of his campaign and party leaders, from the leadership level to the grassroots.
He also promised to extend his support to youths and women, saying the initiative was aimed at cushioning the hardship they were experiencing under the present administration.
Marafa promised that if elected, his administration would work with and support the people of the state.
He said he would provide further details of his plans as he continued to engage with residents across Zamfara, with the aim of addressing their grievances and “wiping away their tears.”
The candidate thanked the large crowd for turning out to receive him and apologised for the delay.
He said he had entered the state in the morning but was unable to proceed with his planned activities as scheduled because of the massive crowd that welcomed him, which kept him engaged until after 8pm.
