The Kano State Government has announced plans to establish military bases in frontline Local Government Areas as part of efforts to strengthen security, enhance rapid response to emerging threats, and safeguard lives and property.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Tajo-Othman, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Tuesday in Kano.
According to the Commissioner, the initiative followed consultations between Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Minister of Defence, who agreed on the need to reinforce security architecture in vulnerable border communities.
He explained that the proposed military bases will be located in frontline local government areas sharing boundaries with Kaduna and Katsina States, including Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Rogo, and Shanono.
Tajo-Othman said the establishment of the military formations has become necessary to ensure quicker response to security challenges and strengthen the protection of residents in the affected areas.
«“The initiative is intended to strengthen security, improve rapid response to threats, protect communities, and enhance the safety of lives and property across the affected Local Government Areas,” the Commissioner stated.»
He noted that the Kano State Government remains committed to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to sustain peace and protect communities across the state.
The Commissioner also commended the Member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abba Bichi, for facilitating the installation of solar-powered streetlights across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State.
He described the intervention as a significant contribution to improving public safety and supporting the government’s efforts to enhance security, particularly in rural and semi-urban communities.
The Kano State Government reaffirmed its commitment to adopting proactive measures that will strengthen security, foster peace, and create a safer environment for all residents.
