Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to increasing women’s participation in governance and decision-making at all levels across the state.
The Governor gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the leadership and members of the Women in Politics Association, Kano State Chapter, at the Government House. He was represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo.

Speaking during the meeting, the Deputy Governor described women as the bedrock of societal development, stressing that the Kano State Government remains committed to empowering women across various sectors through inclusive policies and programmes.
He noted that empowering women has a multiplier effect on families and communities, adding that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has consistently prioritized women’s welfare and participation in governance.
According to him, the administration has appointed women into key leadership positions, including Commissioners, the Accountant General, and the Head of the Civil Service, among others. He assured the delegation that more qualified women would be considered for strategic appointments in the future.
In a statement signed by Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu Public Relations Officer, Office of the Deputy Governor, stated that, The Deputy Governor also emphasized that greater women’s participation in politics would significantly enhance education, healthcare, socio-economic development, morality, and other critical aspects of human development across the state.
He appreciated the association for the visit and assured its members that the state government would continue to maintain an open-door policy while encouraging them to sustain their support for programmes and policies aimed at the development of Kano State.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the Women in Politics Association, Kano State Chapter, Ambassador Rashida Adamu Mai Sa’a, said the visit was to formally introduce the association’s leadership and reaffirm its support for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo.
She pledged the association’s commitment to mobilizing women across the state in support of the ruling party ahead of the forthcoming general elections, disclosing that the association aims to secure over one million votes through its ongoing door-to-door (“Gida-Gida”) mobilization campaign.
Ambassador Rashida also appealed to the Kano State Government to provide office accommodation for the association to enable it to effectively carry out its activities.
