The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to continuous monitoring of companies, markets, supermarkets, and individual traders to ensure strict compliance with regulations governing the production and distribution of quality products across the state.

In a statement signed by Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai Director, Public Enlightenment Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KCPC) stated that the Executive Secretary of the Council, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, made this known during ongoing inspection visits to major business outlets, including Alhamsad, Fortune Oil, and Gerawa Rice.
Dr. Garba explained that the visits were designed to strengthen collaboration with the private sector and introduce the Council’s newly appointed leadership. He emphasized the importance of building stronger relationships with stakeholders to jointly protect consumer rights in Kano State.
During the tours, the Executive Secretary urged companies to pay closer attention to product weight accuracy, ensure proper ingredient usage, and rigorously check expiration dates to prevent the sale of outdated goods.
“Compliance with these standards is not optional—it is essential to safeguarding public health and enhancing the well-being of every consumer in Kano,” Dr. Garba stated.
He commended the management teams of the visited companies for their understanding and dedication to maintaining product quality, noting that such cooperation would significantly aid the Council in fulfilling its mandate.
In separate responses, the General Manager of Fortune Oil, Alhaji Bashir Salisu Burji; HR Manager of Alhamsad, Yusuf Bello Buba; and a representative of Gerawa Rice praised the KCPC’s efforts in protecting consumers. They pledged full collaboration with the Council and reaffirmed their commitment to upholding established standards and regulations.
The company representatives also vowed to sustain production of high-quality goods and to work jointly with the Council in promoting consumer welfare, safety, and protection.
The inspection exercise was attended by directors and senior leadership of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council.
