The Kano State Government has commenced the distribution of essential hospital tracer equipment to health facilities across the state as part of its commitment to improving the quality of healthcare services.
In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Board Sa’adatu Suleiman stressed that, The distribution was officially flagged off by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, alongside the Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, with support from WCA Health TA Connect and Pathfinder International.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, the Commissioner for Health expressed appreciation to the development partners for their continued support towards strengthening the state’s health system. Dr. Yusuf urged Primary Healthcare Centre Coordinators and facility managers to safeguard the equipment through proper inventory management, regular maintenance, and accountability to ensure its long-term functionality.
The Commissioner further directed all facility managers to develop practical equipment utilisation plans and ensure that every health facility providing delivery services establishes a Neonatal Corner. According to him, the initiative will enhance the quality of newborn care, improve maternal and child health services, and contribute significantly to reducing neonatal mortality across Kano State.
In his remarks, the Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, commended Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Honourable Commissioner for Health for their sustained investment in the health sector. He revealed that Kano State has reduced its maternal mortality ratio from 1,025 to 588 deaths per 100,000 live births through strategic government interventions, improved healthcare services, and strong collaboration with development partners.
The distribution of hospital tracer equipment reflects the Kano State Government’s determination to equip health facilities with essential medical tools needed to strengthen maternal, newborn, and primary healthcare services. The initiative is expected to enhance service delivery, improve patient outcomes, and accelerate progress toward achieving quality healthcare for all residents of the state.
