The Katsina State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA) has announced a significant reduction in the prevalence of HIV across the state, particularly among pregnant women and children, attributing the achievement to sustained government commitment and strong collaboration with development partners.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Nuhu Bala Kankia, disclosed this during a one-day dissemination meeting on the Katsina State HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan (SSP) 2025–2027.

According to Dr. Kankia, available data indicate encouraging progress in the state’s response to HIV/AIDS, with a steady decline in new infections among vulnerable groups.
“Based on the figures available to us, we have recorded remarkable success in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The prevalence, especially among pregnant women and children, is reducing gradually,” he said.
He attributed the achievements to the unwavering moral and financial support of the Katsina State Government under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umar Radda, as well as the invaluable contributions of donor agencies and other stakeholders involved in HIV prevention, treatment, and care.
Dr. Kankia described the dissemination of the State Strategic Plan as a vital step towards consolidating the gains already recorded while providing a clear roadmap for future interventions aimed at eliminating HIV/AIDS as a public health threat.
In his remarks, the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), Dr. Temitope Ilori, commended the Katsina State Government and all stakeholders for their collective efforts in reducing HIV prevalence in the state.
Represented by Mr. Onuh Daniel, Principal Accountant of NACA, Dr. Ilori said the 2025–2027 State Strategic Plan provides a comprehensive framework for strengthening coordination, improving the effectiveness of HIV interventions, and ensuring the sustainability of the state’s response.
He explained that the plan would expand access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support services while addressing emerging challenges to ensure that no one is left behind.
“The effective implementation of this strategic plan will be instrumental in achieving improved health outcomes and sustaining the gains already made in the fight against HIV,” he stated.
Dr. Ilori reaffirmed NACA’s commitment to working closely with the Katsina State Government, SACA, development partners, and other stakeholders by providing technical leadership, coordination, and strategic support to ensure the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan.
The dissemination meeting brought together officials of the Katsina State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA), the Katsina State Ministry of Health, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, development partners, and representatives of the Global Fund.
During the event, officials from SACA, NACA, and the Global Fund presented the Katsina State HIV/AIDS Strategic Plan (2025–2027), highlighting key priorities, implementation strategies, and expected outcomes for strengthening the state’s HIV response over the next three years.
