Kano Unveils Digital Multimedia Department
Says Modern Governance Requires Strong Digital Communication Infrastructure

The Kano State Government has officially unveiled the Digital Multimedia Department under the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs as part of its commitment to strengthening government communication, promoting transparency, and enhancing public engagement through modern digital platforms.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, announced this during the unveiling ceremony held on Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters in the Audu Bako Secretariat, Kano.
Speaking at the event, Comrade Waiya described the establishment of the Department as a major institutional reform designed to bridge communication gaps between government and citizens in an increasingly digital age.

He explained that the Department was created following extensive consultations and institutional assessments which highlighted the need for a dedicated structure to effectively document government programmes, showcase achievements, disseminate policies, and counter misinformation through timely and credible communication.
“The Digital Multimedia Department represents our response to the growing demand for modern, efficient, and professional government communication. It will ensure that the voice of government remains visible, accessible, and authoritative across all communication platforms,” the Commissioner stated.
According to him, the Department will serve as the central hub for digital content creation, online engagement, documentation of government activities, strategic media management, and publication of official government information.
Comrade Waiya commended the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for approving the establishment of the Department, describing the move as a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to responsive governance and effective public communication under the Kano First Agenda.
The event also featured the inauguration of the Forum of Directors of Public Enlightenment and Public Relations Officers, comprising communication professionals from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the state.
The Commissioner said the Forum was established to strengthen coordination, professional collaboration, information sharing, and strategic alignment among government communication officers.
As part of efforts to support the activities of the newly inaugurated Forum, Comrade Waiya announced a donation of One Million Naira.
In their goodwill messages, communication experts and media stakeholders, including Professor Nura Ibrahim, Professor Hassan Alhaji Ya’u, Dr. Saminu Umar Rigiyar Zaki, and other media leaders, commended the Kano State Government for establishing the Digital Multimedia Department. They noted that the initiative would significantly enhance the state’s digital communication strategy and improve information dissemination to the public.
The unveiling of the Department and inauguration of the Forum underscore the Kano State Government’s determination to modernize public communication and strengthen citizen engagement through innovative digital solutions.
