Waiya Honoured with Excellence Award for Staff Development Initiatives

The Kano State Local Government Information Officers Forum has presented an Award of Excellence to the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya. The presentation was made by the Forum’s Chairman, Comrade Jamilu Mustapha Yakasai, on behalf of the 44 Local Government Information Officers. He commended Comrade Waiya for his unwavering commitment to professionalism and staff welfare.

“This award is a testament to the Commissioner’s tireless efforts,” stated Comrade Jamilu Yakasai. “His initiatives, including specialized training programs and sponsoring our delegation to the National Conference in Abuja, have significantly boosted morale and enriched our skills through national engagement.”

In his acceptance, Comrade Waiya expressed his profound gratitude for the recognition. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to continuous capacity building, crediting the unwavering support of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“With the Governor’s support, we will sustain our efforts to equip information officers with advanced skills,” Comrade Waiya assured. “This ensures the effective dissemination of government policies and activities to the public.” He emphasized that the Governor’s investment in human capital has been instrumental in elevating public information management across all ministries, departments, and agencies.

The Commissioner also urged information officers to strengthen relationships with local stakeholders—including traditional rulers, security agencies, and community members—to enhance service delivery. “Prove your effectiveness in your place of work by being relevant, committed, and dedicated,” he advised.

The event also highlighted other achievements under Comrade Waiya’s leadership, as noted by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Inuwa Idris Yakasai. These include registering ministry staff with professional bodies like the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), bolstering their professional credentials.

Further underscoring the commitment to excellence, the Director of Public Enlightenment, Alhaji Idris Zakariya’u, praised the Commissioner for introducing a monthly performance reward scheme.

The event culminated with Comrade Waiya presenting cash prizes to the top-performing information officers for September:

· 1st Place (N100,000): Adamu Iliyasu, Information Officer, Tarauni Local Government
· 2nd Place (N60,000): Sani Muhammad, Information Officer, Makoda Local Government
· 3rd Place (N40,000): Arrubabatu Sani, Information Officer, Rimin Gado Local Government
