“THE GREAT KANO SHOWDOWN: BARAU’S RISE, ABBA’S STRUGGLE, KWANKWASO DESPERATION”….

…Kwankwaso last Gamble meets Barau’s Silent Bulldozer.

By Shariff Aminu Ahlan

Kano politics has always been dramatic, but the current episode unfolding between Senator Barau Jibrin, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is nothing short of a political earthquake. The battle is no longer just about popularity; it is about survival, relevance, and submission to the new power structure.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf finds himself trapped in the middle of a dangerous chess game. Once touted as the loyal protégé of Kwankwaso, his recent maneuvers suggest a shocking twist — he is quietly preparing to dump his political godfather and seek refuge in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This gamble is not born of strength, but of desperation. Abba knows his administration has been weakened by endless controversies, unpopular decisions, and a lack of independent control. To survive politically, he is now ready to embrace the same party he once attacked.

But there is a catch: if Abba finally crosses over to APC, he will not come in as a king, but as a servant. He will be forced to submit to the dictates of Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President and Kano’s new Alpha in the political food chain.

Barau Jibrin has become the master strategist, quietly building alliances and leveraging his strong relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Unlike Kwankwaso’s noisy style, Barau is calm, calculating, and devastatingly effective.

In the APC, Barau’s word is law in Kano. If Abba defects, he has no choice but to bend the knee. His political future, whether he secures a second term or exits after one, will be at Barau’s mercy. The Governor who once prided himself on independence will now live under the shadow of the man who controls both Kano APC and enjoys the confidence of the Presidency.

For Kwankwaso, the stakes are even higher. His long-standing dominance in Kano politics is collapsing before his eyes. He once believed Abba Kabir would cement his legacy, but now his own protégé is preparing to desert him for survival.

This looming betrayal is nothing less than a political earthquake. If Abba dumps NNPP and enters APC under Barau’s command, Kwankwaso will face the greatest humiliation of his career — abandoned by his anointed governor and overshadowed by the very APC machinery he once mocked.

Kwankwaso has built his politics on loyalty and control. But history is about to deal him a cruel hand: his so-called loyalist is about to trade him for survival, and his arch-rival Barau Jibrin is set to be the ultimate beneficiary..The script is becoming clearer:

Abba Kabir will dump Kwankwaso and crawl into APC…Barau Jibrin will dictate his political fate under the blessing of the Presidency… Kwankwaso will be left stranded, nursing the biggest shocker of his political career.

Kano politics has never been kind to arrogance and overconfidence. As things stand, Barau Jibrin is not just winning the game — he is rewriting the rules. And when the dust settles, it will be evident that the real power in Kano is no longer Kwankwaso or Abba Kabir, but Senator Barau Jibrin — the silent bulldozer who now towers over them all.
