NIMC Launches Free NIN Registration for Public School Students in Kano
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the commencement of a free registration exercise for pupils and students in public schools across Kano State. The initiative aims to provide Primary, Junior, and Secondary School students with their National Identification Numbers (NIN), a crucial requirement for national examinations such as WAEC and NECO.
During an advocacy visit to the Kano State Ministry of Education, NIMC’s Regional Coordinator, Emmanuela Igbinovia, emphasized the importance of the project, citing the growing demand for NIN in academic and official processes. She stated that the commission is collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure a seamless registration process.
“We are here to work with the ministry and school administrators to gather necessary details, including school names, principals’ contact information, and student data. NIMC forms will be distributed to parents for completion before the scheduled registration dates,” Igbinovia explained.
Garba Balarabe, NIMC’s State Coordinator, highlighted that the exercise seeks to boost Kano’s enrollment figures, closing the gap with leading states like Lagos. “Recent data shows Lagos ahead by over two million registrations, but this initiative will significantly increase Kano’s numbers,” he said.
In response, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, Kano State Commissioner for Education, reaffirmed the government’s support for the program. Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammed, he urged parents and school administrators to ensure full participation in the exercise.
The registration will involve data collection, biometric capturing, and subsequent issuance of NIN slips. Specific dates for the exercise will be announced soon.
