KSTSB Focuses on Practicals, Teachers’ Training, Renovation of Schools — Prof Dahiru Sale

The Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board (STSB) has intensified efforts to strengthen practical-based learning, improve teachers’ capacity, and renovate science and technical colleges across the state. This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Associate Professor Dahiru Sale Mohammed, during a ceremony organized by the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), STSB Zone, to mark his two-year anniversary in office.

Prof. Dahiru Sale explained that the Board has prioritized effective laboratory practicals in science schools and promoted innovation and creativity in technical colleges to ensure students acquire relevant skills that make them productive and economically useful. He added that principals are now posted strictly based on merit and area of specialization, a move that has enhanced performance in many schools.

The Executive Secretary revealed that 105 technical teachers were trained earlier in the year on pedagogy, ICT, and hands-on practical skills at Kaduna State Polytechnic. He also highlighted the achievement of a student from Dawakin Tofa Science College who emerged winner of the 9th Young Scientist Governorship Award and was rewarded by the Kano State Government.

On infrastructure development, Prof. Dahiru Sale disclosed that following needs assessment submissions, the Executive Governor approved the total renovation of two colleges, while over 20 others are currently undergoing renovation across the state. He also noted that a recent admission validation exercise uncovered 98 cases of fake admission letters, which are presently under investigation.

He further stated that the Board conducted assessment visits to six de-boarded colleges to address critical challenges and make informed decisions. In his remarks, the Chairman of ANCOPSS STSB Zone, Salisu Tijjani, commended the Executive Secretary’s achievements and urged principals to support his vision of producing skilled students and improving service delivery in the education sector.
