KSPHCMB Launches New Committee to Oversee and Strengthen Drug Supply System
Inaugural Meeting Sets New Directives for Transparency and Accountability in Health Commodities Management

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has held the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Sustainable Health Commodities Supply System Monitoring Committee, marking a significant step towards ensuring a reliable and transparent supply of essential medicines across the state.

Convened at the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) and chaired by the Director General of the Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, the meeting brought together committee members, including zonal directors, to solidify strategies for strengthening the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) and improving supply chain oversight.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Committee, Pharmacist Abdullahi Abubakar Danzabuwa, commended Professor Ibrahim’s swift action in establishing the committee. “We commend the Director General’s visionary leadership and assure him of our unwavering commitment to driving transparency and accountability in our supply chain operations,” stated Pharmacist Danzabuwa. He pledged the committee’s full collaboration with all stakeholders to guarantee the success of the DRF system.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer Sa’adatu Suleiman stated that, The meeting featured presentations on DRF data management, operational plans, and monitoring strategies for health facilities. Deliberations focused on establishing a robust framework to ensure efficiency and sustainability in the management of health commodities, aligning with the state government’s goal of providing uninterrupted access to essential drugs.
To enhance financial integrity and oversight, the committee reached the following resolutions with immediate effect:
1. Elimination of POS Payments: The use of POS machines for remitting supervision mark-ups to Local Government, Zonal, and State levels is no longer permitted.
2. Mandatory Bank Payments: All such payments must now be made through conventional banks, with payment tellers submitted to the relevant committees for official receipting.
3. Immediate Commencement of Supervision: Supervision activities are to begin at all levels without delay.

Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim concluded the meeting by reaffirming the Board’s commitment to accountability. “The Board is unwavering in its pursuit of transparency in managing health commodities. We urge all stakeholders to fully comply with these new directives for the collective good and health of the people of Kano State,” he stated.
The Secretary of the committee, Bashir Idris Mu’azu, and other members were in active attendance, contributing to the development of this streamline monitoring framework.
