Kano State Intensifies Healthcare Quality Drive with Multi-Agency Supervision Exercise

The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) is leading a comprehensive Joint Supportive Supervision (JSS) initiative across the state’s healthcare facilities, aiming to elevate service standards and ensure accountability in the health sector.

Now in its second quarter, the exercise involves coordinated teams visiting both public and private health facilities. The goal is to reinforce clinical protocols, enhance infection prevention, and improve data management systems, ensuring uniform quality of care for all residents.
On the third day of the supervision, teams engaged directly with healthcare workers, providing hands-on mentoring and technical guidance. The focus was on strengthening critical areas such as patient documentation, reporting procedures, and internal quality assurance mechanisms.

This initiative underscores a unified commitment from Kano State’s health sector. The supervision teams comprise representatives from a broad coalition of agencies, including,Kano State Ministry of Health, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), Kano State Hospitals Management Board (HMB), Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (PHCMB), Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN),National Association of Nurses and Midwifery (NANNM),Office of the Head of Civil Service, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
A spokesperson for KSCHMA Aminu Turaki emphasized that the collaborative effort is vital for building a more robust healthcare system. “This multi-agency approach allows us to systematically address service delivery gaps and work towards a healthcare system that is efficient, transparent, and truly responsive to the needs of the people of Kano State,” the statement read.
The ongoing JSS exercise is a cornerstone of the state’s strategy to uphold high-quality healthcare standards and optimize the benefits of the contributory healthcare scheme for all enrollees.
