Kano State government is determined to expand and upgrade Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies to the auspicious level to compete with best Islamic Colleges in the world.
The statement was made by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata when he paid an official visit to AKCILS as part of the continuation of familiarization visit to the Institutions under the auspices of his ministry.
The Commissioner who described the Collage as transformation hub that offers integrating opportunities for growing teeming population from Islamiyya and Qur’anic base school to Western refinement which pave way to pursue higher certificates, that lead prominent individual lawyers to become judges, imams and lecturers, among others incubated from the college.
“As an Islamic center in West Africa, Kano is proud of this Collage, being the largest offtaker that obsorb thousands of product from Islamiyya, Qur’anic, study centres (better know as Makarantun Soro). Government is keenly interested to expand and upgrade the College,” he said.
He expressed his satisfaction with the achievements recorded by the College in terms of training of numerous number of students, and staff’s commitmeent to services.
“I learned that the College from my interaction with you, faces the issue of Institution conversion to a college of education which is a good idea, Notwithstanding, considering the peculiarites of this college being Islamic we appreciate you and your current status of direct service to our religious institution”, he emphasized.
Dr. Kofar Mata also implored the College to collaborate with Yusuf Maitama Sule University (Northwest) as preparations are at top gear for the University to commence Law Courses so that some graduands from the College can be regularized for direct admission.
The Commissioner further highlighted that, a number of actions are planned tactfully by the State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir, to confront the nagging problems and challenges militating against his aspiration for a prosperous education sector in the state, stressing that, the actions would provide conducive atmosphere for teaching, learning and research to abet both staff and students performance in accordance with the global best practice.
He then used the opportunity to called on all and sundry to be on the same page in order to achieve target goals.
“We have no place like home, we have no state like Kano and Kano did a lot to all of us. So, we need to put in our best for better future residents and that of humanity in general,” Dr. Kofar Mata emphasized.
In his speech the Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, Prof. Balarabe Abubakar Jakada, spoke at length on the history of the College which was established 47 years ago.
According to him, the College is offering Diploma and NCE programmes, it also have 32 departments, with regards to the manpower, the college has over 847 permanent and pensionable staffers comprising acadamic and non-academic and 91 casual and voluntary staff.
Prof. Jakada, thanked the State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir, for his efforts of reinvigorating the education sector.
He appealed to the Commissioner to forward their lingering problems militating the College, which include lack of adequate theater rooms, teachers upgrade programme, among others.
As a tradition, the Commissioner conducted an interective session with all stakeholders and shared ideas regards to the problems, prospects, as well as the way forward.
the Hon. Commissioner, Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata, was accompanied by all the Management Staff of the Ministry, technical aides as well as ALCILS’s Management for an inspection of some projects at the College.
