KNSG Reaffirms Commitment to Education and Social Development Initiatives

The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to advancing education and social development initiatives across the state.
Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, gave the assurance during the official flag-off of the “Snacks for Thought” pilot scheme of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program, held at Nasarawa Primary School, Kano.

The Governor commended the initiative, noting that Kano has consistently served as a pace-setter in implementing transformative educational programs, tracing back to similar interventions introduced under the administration of Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
“This legacy aligns strongly with our administration’s commitment to education, youth development, and social welfare, which remain pillars of our human capital development and policy trust agenda,” Governor Yusuf stated.
He reiterated his administration’s readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure transparency, accountability, and sustainability in implementing the school feeding program. The Governor also disclosed plans to expand the initiative to more schools based on impact assessments that measure improvements in pupils’ engagement and learning outcomes.
Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for selecting Kano among the pilot beneficiaries and acknowledged the contributions of development partners, private sector actors, and community stakeholders in driving the program’s success.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, represented by Yusha’u Hamza, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, described the program as a “significant step toward improving access to quality education and pupil retention.”
“By providing nutritious snacks to pupils, we are not just filling their stomachs but also fueling learning, motivation, and hope for the future,” Makoda emphasized.
He further reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to the Kano Education Emergency Recovery Plan and Mutual Accountability Framework, both designed to revitalize the education sector following the Governor’s declaration of a state of emergency in education.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yakubu Adam Kofar Mata, also lauded the Kano State Government’s support for the pilot scheme, describing it as part of the federal government’s broader efforts to promote child education and reduce poverty nationwide.

Earlier, the Program Manager of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program, Princess Dr. Aderemi Adebowale, explained that the “Snacks for Thought” initiative would initially cover selected public primary schools before scaling to others.
“No public school will be left behind as the federal government remains committed to motivating children with hygienic and nutritious food during school hours,” she affirmed.
The launch of the “Snacks for Thought” pilot scheme reflects the Kano State Government’s sustained drive to enhance education quality, boost school attendance, and address social development challenges. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the initiative would not only improve pupils’ nutrition and concentration but also strengthen community confidence in public education.
