Katsina State Renovates and Equips 260 Primary Health Centers, Plans More Upgrades

The Katsina State Government has successfully renovated and equipped 260 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) across the state as part of its commitment to improving healthcare delivery.

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Shamsudeen Yahaya, disclosed this during the opening of a three-day 2025 Mandatory Community Practitioner Program for Community Health Practitioners in the state.

Dr. Yahaya stated that each renovated health center has been provided with essential amenities, including water supply, doctors’ quarters, ambulances, and modern medical equipment. He further revealed that the government is working to renovate an additional 110 health centers within the next two years, with the goal of ensuring functional healthcare facilities in all 361 wards of the state by 2027.
In a move to address manpower shortages, Governor Dikko Umar Radda recently approved an **Automatic Replacement Policy** for recruitment in general hospitals and health centers. Dr. Yahaya confirmed that the process of hiring community health workers and midwives will commence soon.
He urged healthcare workers to support government efforts in reducing maternal mortality rates and improving service delivery.
Earlier, the National President of the Community Health Practitioners Association, Kabir Yahaya Ahmed, commended the Katsina State Government for its proactive measures, including the closure of unregistered health training schools, which has helped sanitize the sector.
The ongoing three-day training, attended by participants from the North-West zone, focuses on capacity building and digitization to enhance the efficiency of community health workers.
