Katsina NOA Launches Vaccine Campaign to Protect Children in High-Risk Areas

The Katsina State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a targeted sensitization campaign across 19 high-risk local government areas to promote the upcoming Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination drive, set to begin nationwide in October.

The campaign focuses on educating communities about the *ife-saving benefits of the MR vaccine, particularly for children aged 9 months to 15 years. The identified LGAs include Katsina, Kaita, Jibia, Batagarawa, Batsari, Safana, Kankara, Faskari, Sabuwa, Funtua, Musawa, Rimi, Charanchi, Kankia, Mani, Mashi, Daura, Baure, and Bindawa regions deemed highly vulnerable to measles and rubella outbreaks.

In a statement, Alhaji Muhtari Lawal Tsagam, Katsina State Director of NOA, emphasized the urgent need for the immunization campaign. “Measles and rubella pose severe threats to children, including blindness, deafness, mental impairment, and even death. This sensitization effort is critical to ensuring widespread acceptance and a successful vaccination rollout,” he said.
The agency is mobilizing traditional leaders, religious institutions, and community stakeholders to drive participation and dispel misinformation about the vaccine. The campaign aligns with Nigeria’s broader public health strategy to eliminate preventable diseases and safeguard future generations.
