Katsina Civil Servants Decry Delay, Strict Procedures in Promotion Process —- Workers Cite Low Morale as Government Faces Backlash Over Promotion Delays

Civil servants in Katsina State have raised concerns over the prolonged delays and stringent procedures implemented by the state government regarding promotions. Many workers expressed frustration, stating that the sluggish process has dampened morale and hindered career progression.

In interviews with Triumph, affected employees revealed their dissatisfaction with the current system. Haruna Sule Shinkafi, a civil servant, shared his experience: “I sat for the promotion exam in 2024, but up till now, I have not received any notification of promotion. This delay is discouraging.” He further noted that many colleagues across ministries and departments face similar challenges, blaming the rigid procedures for stalling their advancement.
An anonymous civil servant also alleged irregularities in the selection process, claiming that some ministry heads exclude eligible workers from promotion lists. “Not all names forwarded to the Office of the Head of Service are those due for promotion. Some qualified employees are being sidelined,” the source disclosed.
Efforts to obtain a response from the State Head of Service, Falalu Bawale, were unsuccessful. However, Muhtaru Abdu Rumah, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Katsina, confirmed that the union is aware of the grievances. “We have written to the government regarding these complaints and are optimistic that they will be addressed,” Rumah assured.
The TUC urged the state government to streamline the promotion process to restore confidence and motivation among civil servants. Workers remain hopeful for swift intervention to resolve the lingering issues
