Kano Women Affairs Ministry Launches Statewide Inspection of Development Centres

The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs has commenced a comprehensive statewide supervision and assessment exercise of Women Development Centres (WDCs) and Women Cottage Industries across all 44 local government areas of the state.

Commissioner, Ambassador Amina Abdullahi Sani (HOD), spearheaded the first phase of the working tour with visits to Rimin Gado and Tofa Local Government Areas.

The initiative aims to physically verify, assess, and document the current condition of all Women Development Centres, inspect available equipment and facilities, identify operational challenges, and develop sustainable solutions that will strengthen the implementation of women empowerment programmes across the state.
Speaking during the visits, Ambassador Amina Abdullahi Sani emphasized the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to reviving and equipping the centres as hubs for economic growth, self-reliance, and community development among women.
“This is not just a visit; it’s a strong commitment to transforming women’s lives. When women are empowered at the grassroots level, the ripple effect benefits their families, communities, and the entire state,” she said.

During the tour, the Chairman of Tofa Local Government, Hon. Yakubu Ibrahim Adis, welcomed the delegation and called for the establishment of a permanent Women Development Centre and Cottage Industry in the area. He emphasized the importance of providing structured support to rural women to boost their productivity and income.
Similarly, at Rimin Gado Local Government, the Chairman, Hon. Sani Salisu Jili, appealed to the Ministry to prioritize girl-child education and youth empowerment, noting their critical roles in fostering sustainable community development.
The Director of the Women Department, Hajiya Bilkisu Shafi’u Jibrin, lauded the Commissioner’s leadership and commitment to grassroots empowerment, adding that properly supported Women Development Centres have the potential to significantly transform lives and improve livelihoods across Kano State.
This statewide supervision tour reflects the Kano State Government’s commitment to ensuring that all women empowerment programmes remain functional, impactful, and inclusive. Data gathered during the visits will guide future policy decisions, resource allocation, and targeted interventions to further advance women’s development in the state.
