Kano Taskforce Seizes Illicit Drugs Worth Millions at Dangwaro Market

The Kano State Taskforce Committee on Motor Parks and Other Public Spaces has confiscated illicit drugs worth millions of naira at the Kanawa Pharmaceutical Coordinated Wholesale Centre located in Dangwaro Market, as part of ongoing efforts to sanitize public spaces and protect public health.
The confiscated drugs, which were seized from dealers within the market, include expired, counterfeit, and potentially harmful pharmaceutical products. The operation underscores the state government’s commitment to ensuring that only safe and approved medicines are available to the public.

Speaking during a press briefing, the Chairman of the Committee, Major Adamu Abubakar Usman (Rtd), stated that the seizure formed part of the committee’s routine monitoring and enforcement activities. He explained that the committee is working closely with market leadership to identify and remove illicit drugs from circulation.

Major Usman further noted that the confiscated items reflect the government’s determination to safeguard public health and enforce compliance with regulatory standards. He urged traders and pharmaceutical handlers to strictly adhere to established guidelines and advised residents to purchase medications only from reputable and licensed outlets.
The seized items include 199 cartons of Benzhexol Hydrochloride BP 5mg tablets, five cartons of CINBUL tablets, and Levofloxacin 500mg, among other pharmaceutical products.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Kanawa Pharmaceutical Coordinated Wholesale Centre, Usaini Labaran Zakari, affirmed that the centre is collaborating with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to ensure that only safe and approved drugs are distributed within the market. He reiterated the centre’s commitment to supporting the Kano State Government’s public health initiatives.
