Kano State Urges Residents to Clear Drainages Ahead of Rainy Season to Prevent Flooding

 

The Kano State Ministry of Rural and Community Development has called on residents of Chedi, Sharifai, Zage, Satatima, Chiromawa, and Dorayi to clear their drainages ahead of the rainy season to minimize flooding risks.

The appeal was made today by the State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Hon. Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdussalam, during a courtesy visit from a delegation representing the affected communities. The Commissioner, represented by the Ministry’s Director of Community Development, Comrade Bashir Tijjani, emphasized the importance of proactive measures to prevent flooding and protect lives and property.

Hon. Abdussalam assured residents that the Abba Kabir Yusuf-led administration remains committed to supporting communities in mitigating natural disasters. “Clearing drainages is a collective responsibility, and the government will provide necessary assistance to ensure safer neighborhoods,” he stated.

The delegation leader, **Malam Nuhu Adam**, Chairman of the **Chedi Development Association**, highlighted the urgent need for **drainage expansion and construction** in their areas to combat recurring flooding. He commended the state government and the Ministry for their responsiveness to community welfare.

The Ministry pledged to assess the drainage challenges and explore immediate and long-term solutions in collaboration with relevant agencies.

This call aligns with the state’s broader efforts to enhance **disaster preparedness** and **urban resilience**, particularly in flood-prone areas.
