Kano Mobilizes to Vaccinate 7.8 Million Children in Historic National Measles-Rubella Campaign

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has finalized a comprehensive strategy to vaccinate approximately 7.8 million children as part of Nigeria’s massive integrated Measles-Rubella (MR) campaign, targeting 106 million children nationwide.
The commitment was solidified during a high-level engagement meeting convened by the KSPHCMB, which brought together the 44 Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen and Health Educators to ensure seamless coordination and community mobilization for the upcoming campaign.

Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, Director General of the KSPHCMB, who chaired the meeting, emphasized the critical role of grassroots partnership. “The success of this vital campaign hinges on our collaboration at the community level,” stated Professor Ibrahim. “We are counting on the full support of our LGA Chairmen to mobilize their communities and ensure every eligible child is protected against these preventable diseases.”
During the meeting, the State Immunization Officer (SIO), Sa’adatu Ibrahim, outlined the campaign’s scale. “While Nigeria aims to reach 106 million children across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Kano State has the significant task of vaccinating 7.8 million of our children,” Ibrahim disclosed. “This integrated campaign is a pivotal step not only in shielding our children from measles and rubella but also in strengthening our routine immunization and overall child health services.”

In a powerful show of support, Hon. Mahmoud Tajo Gaya, Vice Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Chairman of Gaya LGA, pledged the unwavering commitment of all 44 LGAs. “On behalf of my colleagues, I assure you of our full support. We will provide all necessary logistics and mobilize our communities to guarantee the resounding success of this campaign in Kano State,” he affirmed.
The engagement included the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials and detailed discussions on campaign micro-plans, ensuring all stakeholders are aligned on objectives and implementation steps.
This meeting marks a decisive milestone in Kano State’s preparedness, positioning it as a key player in the national effort to safeguard the health of millions of Nigerian children.
