Kano State Ministry of Health Suspends Kabo LGA Team to Safeguard Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign

The Kano State Ministry of Health has taken decisive action following significant lapses in the implementation of the integrated Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign in Kabo Local Government Area (LGA). The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has ordered the immediate suspension of the entire officials and partner representatives responsible for the campaign in the LGA.
This move ensures the continued success of a nationwide initiative protecting children against measles, a highly contagious and potentially fatal disease, and rubella, which can cause severe birth defects. The suspension affects the LGA’s Head of Department, Local Immunization Officer, Cold Chain Officer, and all Ward Focal Persons, among others. A newly constituted team has taken over campaign activities in Kabo with immediate effect.
“The Ministry reiterates its unwavering commitment to accountability, transparency, and the effective implementation of all health interventions across Kano State,” said the Commissioner. “Our primary goal is to safeguard the health of our people, and we will not tolerate any actions that compromise the integrity and success of critical health missions like this vaccination campaign.”
In a statement signed by Sa’adatu Suleiman Public Relations officer Primary Health Care Management Board stated that, The ongoing campaign is part of one of the largest integrated vaccination efforts in Nigeria’s history, which aims to reach millions of children through fixed posts, temporary outreach points, and house-to-house “sweep teams”. The Ministry’s action in Kabo LGA underscores its resolve to ensure every child in the state is protected.
