Kano State Launches 2025 Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week, Reinforces Healthcare Commitments

The Kano State Government today officially inaugurated the 1st Round of the 2025 Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) Week alongside key health sector interventions at the Burji Primary Health Centre in Madobi Local Government Area.
Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, representing His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to transforming healthcare access across the state. He highlighted health as a cornerstone of the government’s development agenda, with a focus on safeguarding the wellbeing of women and children.

“Our administration is committed to ensuring quality healthcare for all citizens. Every month, we distribute 6,000 delivery kits and 500 Caesarean section kits** to health facilities, alongside essential emergency and hygiene supplies to enhance service delivery,” the Deputy Governor stated.
Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Honourable Commissioner for Health, praised Governor Yusuf’s unwavering support for the health sector and reiterated the ministry’s commitment to building a sustainable and efficient healthcare system in line with the Governor’s vision.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including:
-Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Executive Secretary, Kano State Hospitals Management Board
– Dr. Fatima Zahradeen, Executive Secretary, KHETFUND
– Dr. Usman Bashir, Director General, Kano Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC)
– Prof. Salisu Ahmed, Director General, State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB)
Development partners, healthcare professionals, traditional leaders, and community members also joined in solidarity, pledging continued collaboration to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
The MNCH Week will deliver critical interventions, including immunization, antenatal care, nutrition support, deworming, and health education, across all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State.
This initiative underscores the state government’s resolve to reduce maternal and child mortality while strengthening healthcare infrastructure for a healthier Kano.
