The Kano State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency, the Executive Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has flagged off the distribution of 120,000 bags of 10kg rice to the less privileged across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The initiative, sponsored by the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), was officially launched at the Government House, Kano, by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who represented the Executive Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf at the event.

In his address, the Deputy Governor commended the philanthropic efforts of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to addressing food insecurity and alleviating hardship, particularly during the blessed month of Ramadan.

He emphasized that this is the second time in the administration that Alhaji Dangote has demonstrated his generosity towards the people of Kano through his foundation, reflecting his unwavering commitment to supporting the needy.

“A similar event took place last year, where he personally oversaw the distribution of foodstuff to the poor in this very arena. This year, according to communications received from the President of the ADF, a total of 120,000 bags of 10kg rice will be distributed across the 44 local government areas of the state. Such a magnanimous gesture will undoubtedly go a long way in alleviating hardship,” the Deputy Governor stated.

To ensure the fair, effective, and transparent distribution of the relief items, the state government has constituted a high-level committee that includes representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the Hisbah Board, security agencies, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and local authorities.

The Deputy Governor urged all stakeholders involved in the distribution to discharge their duties with sincerity, fairness, and the fear of Allah, ensuring that the food aid reaches those who need it the most. He also acknowledged the presence of the ADF team, who are overseeing the process to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative.

In his concluding remarks, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo officially flagged off the distribution, invoking blessings upon the initiative and calling on other wealthy individuals to emulate Alhaji Dangote’s generosity.

“In the spirit of compassion and unity, and in the name of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala), I hereby flag off the distribution of these relief items provided by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to the people of Kano State. May this act of kindness bring relief to those in need and serve as a model for others to emulate,” he declared.

The Kano State Government expressed its profound appreciation to the Aliko Dangote Foundation for its unwavering support towards social welfare initiatives, reaffirming its commitment to collaborating with humanitarian organizations and private sector partners to combat poverty and food insecurity in the state.
