Kano State Executive Council Approves ₦1.66 Billion for Healthcare Infrastructure and Services
Investment targets hospital renovations, solar energy upgrades, and medical supplies to enhance healthcare access across the state

In a decisive move to bolster healthcare delivery, the Kano State Executive Council has approved over ₦1.66 billion for critical health sector projects. The approvals, granted during the 30th Executive Council Meeting on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 (11th Safar 1447 A.H.), underscore the administration’s commitment to improving medical infrastructure, service quality, and patient care statewide.

Under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the approved projects include:
– Renovation/Rehabilitation of Sabo Bakin Zuwo Maternity Hospital (Jakara)** – ₦364.5 million
– General Renovation of Infrastructure at School of Health Technology, Bebeji – ₦294.5 million
– Solar Energy Systems Installation at Five Maternity Facilities– ₦114 million
– Supply of Drugs & Consumables to Hasiya Bayero, Murtala Muhammad, and Yadakunya Hospitals (July–Sept 2025) – ₦112.4 million
– Renovation/Rehabilitation of Newly Procured House at Zango Quarters, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital – ₦272.2 million
– Supply of Working Materials to Two Newly Renovated Wards at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital– ₦128 million
– General Renovation & New Construction at Zakirai Primary Health Care Centre (Phase I)– ₦379.3 million
Total Investment: ₦1,664,780,936.57

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized that these initiatives align with his administration’s vision to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare for all residents. “This funding reflects our resolve to modernize facilities, strengthen primary care, and guarantee that no community is left behind in receiving essential medical services,” he stated.
Comrade Aliyu Muhammad Kwankwason Dorayi, Senior Special Reporter on Health to the Executive Governor, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to transparency and accountability in project execution. “These projects will directly impact maternal health, medical training, and emergency care, reinforcing Kano’s healthcare system for sustainable development,” he noted.
The Kano State Ministry of Health will oversee implementation, with completion timelines to be communicated in subsequent updates.
