Kano State Strengthens Immunization Drive Through Collaborative Stakeholder Meeting

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) reaffirmed its commitment to robust immunization coverage and primary healthcare delivery today, following its Monthly Routine Immunization (RI) Stakeholder Meeting. The gathering, held at the SERICC Conference Hall, served as a strategic platform to align government efforts with development partners and accelerate public health interventions across the state.

Chaired by the Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, the meeting focused on critical reviews of ongoing programs and strategies to enhance their effectiveness. Key agenda items included a deep-dive into the introduction of the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPVV) and a progress report on the ongoing Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign.
In his opening address, Auwal Idris, the Program Manager of SERICC, commended the collaborative spirit of all partners, highlighting their vital role in improving child and maternal health outcomes. Dr. Shamsuddeen Sani, State Consultant for the Gates Foundation, provided a comprehensive implementation review, outlining significant achievements and pinpointing areas requiring immediate collaborative action from local government health teams and partners.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations officer of the Board Sa’adatu Suleiman stated that, the Technical updates were a core component of the session. Dr. Muhammad Bashir Alhasan, the Routine Immunization Focal Person, detailed the progress of the HPV vaccination efforts, emphasizing its critical importance in preventing cervical cancer among women in Kano. Furthermore, the State Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mahmoud Maje, presented data on the MR campaign, showcasing advances in vaccinating eligible children and outlining targeted strategies to close remaining coverage gaps.
Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, speaking on behalf of the Board, underscored the state’s unwavering dedication to achieving high immunization coverage. “These monthly meetings are a cornerstone of our strategy for transparency and collective action,” stated the Director General. “They are essential for strengthening accountability through continuous monitoring and evaluation, ultimately safeguarding the health of our children and communities.”
The session concluded with a renewed, unified commitment from all attendees to intensify efforts and ensure Kano State’s health initiatives remain aligned with national and global priorities.
