Kano State Governor Demands Removal of Police Commissioner, Citing “Unethical and Partisan” Conduct

The Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf, has publicly condemned and called for the immediate removal of the state’s Commissioner of Police, denouncing his actions as a breach of professional ethics and an unacceptable display of partisanship.

The Governor’s strong rebuke was delivered during his address at the parade ceremony marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
In his speech, Governor Yusuf, acting in his capacity as the Chief Security Officer of the state, expressed profound disappointment over the Commissioner’s decision to withdraw from the official parade alongside police personnel.
“Let me say in particular that I would like to seize this opportunity as a Nigerian, as a Kano citizen, and as the Chief Security Officer of Kano State, to condemn the unethical and partisan attitude of the current Commissioner of Police in Kano State,” Governor Yusuf stated. “As you can see, on this historic and independent anniversary of Nigeria, he decided to pull out of the parade. The government and people of Kano State are not happy with this attitude.”

The Governor emphasized that Kano is a peaceful state with law-abiding citizens who were eager to celebrate the nation’s milestone. He used the platform to issue a direct appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to remove the Commissioner from his post in Kano.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to security, Governor Yusuf urged all security agencies to remain focused on their constitutional duties of protecting lives and property and maintaining law and order.
“Security agencies in Kano, in particular, shouldn’t be involving themselves in partisan politics, which will do no good to all of us in Kano State and in Nigeria, of course,” the Governor cautioned.
The Kano State Government reaffirms its dedication to peace and stability and calls for a collaborative and non-partisan relationship with all security operatives for the continued progress of the state.
